FAQ's
Q. What kind of fire can the RRF (Rapid Response Flask) handle?
The RRF is designed to fight small, contained, fires in the early initial stages, with one flask. If the fire becomes larger, two or more flasks may be required to achieve extinguishment. It is not intended for use on a large, out-of-control fire, such as one which has reached the ceiling.
The RRF is an excellent extinguishing agent for fighting Class A fires (ordinary combustible materials such as wood, cloth, paper, rubber, and many plastics). In an uncontrollable fire, the RRF can be a very effective self-defence tool to help knock down the fire and possibly provide an evacuation route.
Q. Can the RRF be used on fires caused by or involving live electrical equipment?
No. The RRF should not be used on live electrical equipment.
However, if the main electrical supply to the equipment/area has been isolated/disconnected then it would be safe to use the RRF.
Q. Is the RRF safe in handling and use?
Of course. The RRF is made of a special resin based breakable plastic which, unlike glass for example, does not produce razor sharp shards, edges or points when broken. The likelihood of cuts or injury to the hands or body is extremely unlikely.
Keep in mind that the RRF should be transported and handled with care as it has been designed to break if dropped from as little as 30cm high!
Q. Can the RRF be used outdoors?
No. The RRF is designed to be used indoors to fight small, contained, fires in the early initial stages, with one flask.
Q. Are the ingredients/contents of the RRF dangerous?
A. No. The content of the RRF consists mainly of food additives, fertilisers and water. In normal use it is harmless to humans, animals, property and the environment.
Q. I've never heard of the RRF. Is it a proven product?
Yes. It is Japan's number one hand thrown type fire extinguisher.
In Korea, new government fire safety law (7 Dec 2006) now requires the mandatory provision of hand thrown type fire extinguishant in all buildings occupied by children, the elderly and people with special needs. The RRF is the first hand thrown fire extinguisher to obtain NS certification in Japan and it is a KFI certified product in Korea. It has also undergone tests with the PSB (Singapore) and the BSI (UK). Further tests are being carried out with various agencies across the EU and further approvals and certifications are being sought/established.
